How To Keep A Beautiful Wood Floor Clean

We are always being asked how to keep a beautiful wood floor clean and how to avoid damage in the future. The key to this is simple, weather you have an engineered wood floor, solid wood or even a nice room full of parquet, GRIT is always the enemy! Be sure to use a good soft brush regularly and have a good quality doormat to remove as much grit as possible before anyone enters the room. Compacted grit will essentially crack the finished surface and over time will allow dirt into the untreated wood resulting in unsightly dark areas that can only be rectified by a complete sand and seal.

What sort of cleaning products would you recommend that I use. Does this effect the finish, I seem to always get a matt look after I have washed the floor.

Just use a very mild detergent in warm water and remember not to scrub too hard. This action can cause the sheen to fade.

I’ve opted for an oiled engineered board for my living room and hallway as the finish and texture is beautiful. My dog often brings muddy paws through the house from the garden. What can I do/use to make sure I’m not left with a dark pathway over time?

    P.S. Great website!

Thanks Rachel! Dogs and wood floors can often be a problem but a great thing to think about is to apply more oil over the fitted pre-finished boards to give even more protection. Failing that, I’m sure someone online is selling dog slippers. Not too sure what the dog would have to say though!
