There are many different species, size blocks and designs to a parquet floor. Generally oak is used and laid in a herringbone style but there are many variations to this only a google away. Very labour intensive, individual blocks are glued and pinned to a subfloor before the sanding, gap-fill and finishing stage takes over.
You can achieve a very individual look with a parquet and sleep well in the knowledge that with the double gap-fill process, with good care the floor will look beautiful for many years to come. You will also have the option to re-sand and finish to suit changing tastes over the years.
These are commonly used in more contemporary projects and provide extra stability in areas that are sometimes not as well suited to solid wood installations. There is generally a 2-8mm wear layer of wood on top and a plywood construction below. This ply construction minimises any movement in the unfortunate event of damp getting into the floor.
The engineered route gives the client a huge range of looks and constructions to choose from and we can help you make the right choice with a full range of samples, images and information in the initial meeting.
Coming in freshly milled or reclaimed form, solid floor installation is usually secret nailed to either joists or a plywood subfloor. Quite often, this option comes unfinished and requires a sand and finish stage on site. This can also include any particular stains the client might like and also further choices as to the final finish of the floor.
At Halo Floors we have a partner who supplies all our reclaimed requirements too. On a case by case basis, we will assess what is needed on each job and order in advance to save the client having to do so. Whether it is a whole floor or just a few boards for repairs, we can cover it all.
